So, it's 2021 ?in case you didn't know ?but this summer, Tokyo plans to host last year's Olympics, and meanwhile, Omega has just released a fake watch in celebration of next year's Olympics in Beijing. That's right, the 2020 games have not even been played, and we already have ourselves a 2022 commemorative watch.
Omega is a longtime partner of the Olympic Games, having served as its official timekeeper for almost every event since 1932. The brand has also created a host of fun Olympics themed replica watches over the years. This one adds to that legacy.
The newly unveiled Omega Seamaster Diver 300M "Beijing 2022" Special Edition takes a familiar model and packs it with colorful flourishes. At its most basic level, this is a Diver 300M in form factor, size, bracelet, and general dial format, just tweaked in a very Olympics-y sort of way.
The bezel on this fake watch is crafted from grade-5 titanium. Omega superfans will recall that just last year, the brand released the Seamaster Diver 300M Nekton Edition ?a fake watch centered around aquatic environmental efforts ?with this very same bezel.
Unlike the Nekton, this Olympic SE comes fitted to the classic Seamaster bracelet. It has a blue dial as opposed to black, and features a date window whereas the Nekton was a no-date model.
But let's talk about the most obvious differentiator: all those colors. Omega has incorporated the colors of the famed Olympic Rings into the dial of this watch. The two, four, eight, 10 and 12 o'clock hour markers each feature a different colored surround (red, green, yellow, blue, and black). The corresponding minute marker also matches the hour color.
Things get more interesting on the dial surface itself. While there's nothing new about a blue Seamaster Diver 300M dial (it's been the color of choice from James Bond to Joe Biden), here it's presented in a sunray brushed ceramic style.
ADVERTISEMENTThis fake watch doesn't have the signature matching blue bezel of the Bond Seamaster, but rather the aforementioned titanium one, giving it a more monochromatic look (and one not dissimilar from a certain Replica Rolex Yacht-Master ?which isn't a bad thing).
Just like the Nekton Seamaster, this piece features a closed caseback, and it's engraved with the 2022 Beijing Olympic Games emblem. The fake watch is powered by the METAS-certified Omega caliber 8800 ?the same in-house movement found in the regular production Seamaster.
This is not the first (nor will it be the last) time Omega has released Olympics-centric replica watches far in advance of the games. In 2018, it dropped a slew of 2020 Tokyo Speedmasters, and then one year later, an all-white Tokyo 2020 Seamaster Planet Ocean. Those replica watches may very well become collectors' items seeing as how 2020 came and went with nary a pole vaulted.
